Friday Fail: Chocolate Vice

Hello!

Today, I’m going to talk to you about a product that I really and truly wanted to work. If you’re like me, you don’t want to pay $49 for an eye shadow palette. Instead, you want to pay $15 for what looks to be a very similar product. I truly believe that you can find high quality eye shadow palettes for lower prices. So when I saw that Makeup Revolution had blatantly ripped off the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palettes, I bought one at Ulta.

The colors were great. I specifically purchased the Chocolate Vice palette, as my eye was heavily drawn to the coopery shade in the middle. That cooper shade was beautiful….and the other eye shadow palettes did not compare. I liked that it had a lot of warm toned shadows and a large pan of white shadow, but the quality just wasn’t there. There was fall out. The shadows weren’t all very pigmented. Nothing was particularly bendable. It was a lot of work for an eye shadow palette. But, I didn’t want to pay for Too Faced eye shadows, so I held onto it. I thought I’d get better at makeup and be able to make it work. Then, I told my that I just needed the right brushes or the right eye shadow primer. I’ve had this product for over a year and I’m finally decluttering it.

Buying such a blatant dupe made me feel a bit bad. A company had worked hard to come up with great packaging and a well-thought out selection of colors and Makeup Revolution didn’t even try to disguise the face that they were taking the idea. While I don’t think all of there products are such obvious rip offs, this one certainly was. The quality or the delicious chocolate scent was not there.

Makeup Revolution is known for having good highlighters, but I only found them to be okay. Their brow pomade is another passible product, but there are better and cheaper alternatives. I’ve only tried one product from Makeup Revolution that I’ve enjoyed, but it’s one of the best purchases I have ever made. That’s another blog post for another time. Share your favorites down below!
